On 2 and 3 April 2009, Mr Tsadiras Alexandros, member of the State Aid Unit, attended a seminar in Maastricht organized by the European Institute on Public Administration (ΕΙΡΑ) on state aid for environmental protection. On the first day the presentations focused on the environmental objectives of the Community, the meaning of state aid, possible exceptions, the de minimis rule, the Εnvironmental Guidelines and the General Block Exception Regulation. The following day the spotlight was placed on cost calculation, the issue of renewable energy, eco-taxes in member states and the European emission trading system.
